On October 11, 2023, the China Digital Music Industry Conference was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The “2022 China Digital Music Industry Report” released at the conference showed that in 2022, the total scale of China’s digital music market, including online music, music short videos, music live streaming, and online karaoke services, was about 155.49 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%.
In terms of specific segments, the report shows that the online music market size was about 18.02 billion yuan, an increase of 12.8% from the previous year; the music short video market size was about 41.03 billion yuan, an increase of 19.8% from the previous year; the music live streaming market size was about 81.52 billion yuan, showing a year-on-year upward trend. As of the end of 2022, the cumulative total number of songs on China’s digital music platforms was about 132 million. From a content perspective, among the types of Chinese music, pop music accounted for the highest proportion, while rap, light music, national style and other niche music began to attract attention; from a user group perspective, China’s digital music active user group was mainly composed of young users born in the “1990s” and “2000s” generations.
In addition, the Digital Music Working Committee of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association jointly issued an initiative with several domestic digital music companies to promote the high-quality development of China’s digital music industry. The initiative calls on digital music industry practitioners to continue to create high-quality products and promote the high-quality development of digital music.
