Huawei and Ericsson Sign Long-term Global Patent Cross-licensing Agreement

According to the news on August 25, Huawei and Ericsson recently announced that they have signed a long-term global patent cross-licensing agreement, which covers a wide range of standard essential patents, including 3/4/5G cellular technology, from 3GPP, ITU, IEEE, IETF and other organizations. The agreement covers the sales of communication network infrastructure and terminal equipment. According to the agreement, both parties license each other to use their own standard patent technologies worldwide.

Insiders said that the two parties reached the long-term patent cross-licensing agreement in a short time through friendly negotiations, respecting and implementing the international intellectual property industry rules, which is a recognition of each other’s strength. It gives more certainty to both parties and the industry, and responds to uncertainty with certainty. And it sets an example for the industry: it proves that quasi-patent technology can be resolved through negotiation rather than litigation, and that both parties can better share technology and promote global innovation.
