The National Top 100 Science and Technology Innovation Index Report 2022 (Enterprises, Universities and Research Institutions) (hereinafter referred to as "Report") was officially released on May 30, 2022. 

According to the Report, Huawei, State Grid and BOE are among the top 500 scientific and technological innovation enterprises in China, and the number of patent applications and grants retains year-on-year grow rate. The total number of patents of the top 500 enterprises is more than 2 million, accounting for 16% of the total number of patents of national enterprises, and the total number of PCT applications is nearly 90,000, accounting for 41% of the total number of PCT applications of national enterprises. 

Tsinghua University, Peking University and Zhejiang University are among the top 50 universities in terms of scientific and technological innovation in China. The number of patent applications and authorizations of listed universities has steadily increased, with nearly 700,000 patents, accounting for 33% of the total patents of universities in China, and the total number of PCT applications exceeds 10,000, accounting for 59% of the total number of PCT applications of universities in China. 

Compared with enterprises and universities, the number of patents in the top 50 national scientific and technological innovation research institutions is relatively small. There are more than 110,000 patents in the list, accounting for 15% of the patents in the national research institutions, and more than 3,000 PCT applications, accounting for 27% of the PCT applications in the national research institutions, which gains certain advantages. This year's Report includes research institutes affiliated to enterprise groups into research institutions for statistics. A number of research institutes affiliated to enterprise groups, represented by China Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd., China Academy of Space Technology and China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, have gained a large number of patents.
