1. In 2021, more than 14 million cases were concluded
In 2021, the Trademark Office and five local trademark examination and cooperation centers, including Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing, Zhengzhou and Jinan centers, completed more than 14 million trademark examination and trial cases throughout the year. Among them, the substantive review of trademark registration applications exceeded 10.5682 million; 61,343 categories of substantive examination of Madrid territorial extension applications were concluded; 170,100 objection reviews, 2,895 collective trademark reviews and 2,844 certification trademark reviews were completed; a total of 382,800 cases of various types of review were tried and issued; 3,408,300 substantive examinations on follow-up works and withdrawal for non-use of three years.
2. In 2021, the number of registrations reached 7.74 million
In 2021, the number of trademark registrations reached 7.739 million. Among them, there were 7.543 million domestic trademark registrations, accounting for 97.5% of the total registration; there are 194,000 foreign trademarks registered in China, accounting for 2.5% of the total registration.

In 2021, the Trademark Office formulated and implemented the Work Plan for Reducing the Trademark Registration Cycle in General Circumstances, which successfully reduced the trademark registration cycle in general circumstances to 7 months before the end of 2021 on the basis that the average examination cycle of trademark registration was stable at 4 months.
4. Combat on 482,000 malicious trademark registration applications
In order to crack down on malicious trademark registration and hoarding, the Trademark Office has handled 482,000 malicious trademark registration applications for non-use intention. Where 1,628 malicious trademarks with clear hijack behavior and damaging public interests were rejected in bulk, and 1,729 registered trademarks were declared invalid ex officio.
5. In 2021, China ranked the third in Madrid League
In 2021, the Trademark Office received 5,928 new applications for international registration of Madrid trademarks, ranking the third in Madrid Union in the world. By the end of 2021, Chinese applicants' international business of Madrid trademark has all transformed to e-platform, and the annual online application rate has reached 97%.
