Baidu Leads China's AI Patent List

According to the Analysis Report on High-value Patents and Innovation Driving Forces of Artificial Intelligence in China released by the National Research Center for Industrial Information Security Development and the Electronic Intellectual Property Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2021, as of September 2021, Baidu once again won the first place in the number of patent applications in AI field in China.

According to the report, as of September 2021, there were 909,401 patent applications and 253,811 authorized patents in AI field in China. Baidu, Tencent, State Grid, Huawei, Alibaba and other companies are among the best in the number of artificial intelligence patent applications and patent quality. This year Baidu won the first place again with 13,007 patent applications and 3,652 patent authorizations, which is also the fourth consecutive year that it reached the top of ranking. 

Over the years, Baidu has been deeply involved in the field of deep learning, and has accumulated remarkable patent advantages both at home and abroad. According to WIPO Technology Trends 2019 Artistic Intelligence published by WIPO in January 2019, Baidu ranks second in the number of patent applications in the field of deep learning worldwide, and recent research shows that it has leapt to the first place. Questel recently released the Global Deep Learning Patent Panorama Report "Deep Learning 2021 Patent Landscape", which reviews the development trend of global patents in the field of deep learning in recent ten years with detailed data, and makes an in-depth analysis of the research and development direction and technical advantages of major patentees in this field. According to the report, 43 out of the top 50 institutions in deep learning patent applications are from China, among which Baidu ranks the first with 2,522 patent applications, surpassing global competitors such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Samsung.
