AI Patents Made Public by DAMO Academy Reached New Record in China’s AI industry

On August 11, at the Zhejiang Province Patent Open Implementation Policy Announcement Conference, Alibaba DAMO Academy (Lakeside Laboratory) announced that it would offer 100 AI patents for free to the society, which will become the largest patent opening action in China’s artificial intelligence industry.

The 100 AI patents will be included in the first batch of national patent open implementation list, and will be listed on the Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center, covering many AI technology fields such as image technology, video technology, 3D vision, etc. There are no lack of patents with broad application scenarios, such as “traffic signal light perception”, “suspected infringement image detection”, “time series data prediction”, “point cloud data processing”, “intelligent subtitle generation”, etc., which will enable small and medium-sized enterprises to obtain AI technology dividends at low or even zero cost, and accelerate the arrival of the AI era.

It is worth mentioning that among the patents made public, there are three that are specifically aimed at precision treatment of cancer, solving the key medical image registration problem. Registration is a basic step in medical image applications, aiming to find the spatial correspondence between pairs or a series of medical images. These three patents are derived from the research results published by DAMO Academy in international top academic journals and conferences, and are applied to “image-guided radiotherapy”, “longitudinal lesion quantification”, “atlas-based segmentation and multimodal fusion computer-aided diagnosis”. Their opening will help more hospitals build a full-process intelligent solution for cancer treatment, and promote the transformation of technological achievements in precision treatment of cancer.
