Sharp Corporation announced on August 1 that it has signed a cross-licensing contract for wireless communication technology patents with vivo, and terminated the patent infringement lawsuit that Sharp filed in China in September 2022.
Sharp stated that it has granted standard essential patents for wireless communication technology to many enterprises in the communication equipment and automobile industries in Japan, the United States, Europe, China, and Korea. It has been committed to developing core technologies for the third generation (3G), fourth generation (4G) and fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems, and its portfolio of 3G/4G/5G SEP products currently contains more than 6,000 patents.
According to the Global Wireless Communication Network Technology Invention Patent Ranking (TOP100) recently released by IPRdaily, the top three are Qualcomm, Huawei, and Ericsson respectively, vivo ranks sixth, and Sharp ranks 22nd.
The cross-licensing contract between Sharp and vivo covers the use of each other’s wireless communication technology patents in their products. The specific terms of the contract are not disclosed. This contract will help both parties to avoid patent disputes and focus on product development and innovation.
