CNIPA Releases 2022 Report on IP Rights Protection and Assistance

The National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) recently released a report on the progress of intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and assistance work in 2022. The report pointed out that in 2022, the national intellectual property system actively implemented the deployment of the “14th Five-Year Plan for National Intellectual Property Protection and Utilization”, continuously improved the work mechanism, strengthened the work system, standardized the business development, expanded the team strength, enhanced the basic conditions guarantee, and achieved remarkable results in various aspects of work.

According to the report, the IPR protection and assistance work mechanism was constantly improved, and 24 provinces (regions, municipalities) formulated relevant norms and guidelines for IPR protection and assistance work, strengthening the standardization and normalization of work. 26 provinces (regions, municipalities) deepened the cooperation with relevant departments on protection, forming a joint force for protection. The IPR protection and assistance information platform operated with high quality. In 2022, the China IPR Protection and Assistance Network had a total annual visit volume of more than 3 million times, an increase of 33.1% year-on-year. The IPR protection and assistance work was solidly advanced. The national IPR protection and assistance institutions handled more than 71,000 applications for IPR protection and assistance, including 32,000 applications from small and medium-sized enterprises, provided more than 46,000 consultations and guidance services, organized more than 2,400 public seminars and trainings on IPR, provided 11,000 reference opinions on IPR infringement determination, provided 618 intellectual property analysis and early warning services, and provided 309 on-site and other IPR protection and assistance services. The IPR protection and assistance work extended to the grassroots level in an all-round way, and the team strength continued to grow. By the end of 2022, there were more than 2,000 IPR protection and assistance institutions nationwide, of which 28 provinces (regions, municipalities) had established a three-level IPR protection and assistance system at the provincial, municipal and county levels, and 16 provinces (regions, municipalities) had achieved full coverage of IPR protection and assistance institutions at the prefecture level. More than 900 colleges and universities and social organizations participated in IPR protection and assistance services, with more than 7,000 volunteers and more than 10,000 IPR protection and assistance experts.
