China's satellite navigation and location services industry association released the 2023 White Paper on China's Satellite Navigation and Location Services Industry Development in Beijing on May 18. The white paper shows that by December 31, 2022, China's cumulative total of satellite navigation patent applications had exceeded 109,000, continuing to lead the world. In 2022, China's satellite navigation and location services industry output value reached 500.7 billion yuan.

The white paper shows that in 2022, China's invention patent applications in this field mainly focused on hot areas such as Beidou positioning system, multi-sensor fusion, navigation and positioning, and satellite signals. Overall, China started late in the field of satellite navigation, but developed rapidly in the later stage. With the further advancement of the next-generation Beidou system and the national comprehensive positioning navigation timing system planning and construction, it is expected that related technology patent applications will continue to maintain a rapid growth trend. Since the Beidou system provided services, it has been widely used in transportation, meteorological reporting, communication timing and other fields, integrated into the national core infrastructure, and produced significant economic and social benefits.

Li Donghang, deputy secretary-general of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association and executive dean of the Beidou Time-Space Technology Research Institute, said that in 2022, the five major regions of Beidou industry achieved a comprehensive output value of about 377.8 billion yuan. Among them, the comprehensive output value of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region reached 104.8 billion yuan, that of Pearl River Delta region reached 102.8 billion yuan, that of Yangtze River Delta region reached 76.9 billion yuan, that of Central China region reached 49.7 billion yuan, and that of Western region reached 43.6 billion yuan. According to incomplete statistics, as of the fourth quarter of 2022, more than 13 million sets of various types of Beidou terminals have been promoted and applied in the five major regions.
