According to various statistics, China's intellectual property system has the following four characteristics in 2021: 

First, the innovation vitality of China's domestic market players has been further stimulated. By the end of 2021, there were 298,000 enterprises with valid invention patents in China, an increase of 52,000 over the previous year. Chinese domestic enterprises have 1.908 million effective invention patents, an increase of 22.6% year-on-year, which is 5.0 percentage points higher than the national average growth rate. Among them, high-tech enterprises have 1.213 million effective invention patents, accounting for 63.6% of the total number of domestic enterprises. 

Secondly, the scale of patent and trademark pledge financing has been further expanded, and its inclusiveness has been further highlighted. In 2021, the amount of patent and trademark pledge financing nationwide reached 309.8 billion yuan, with 17,000 financing projects, benefiting 15,000 enterprises, with a year-on-year increase of about 42%. Among them, inclusive loans below 10 million yuan benefited 11,000 enterprises, accounting for 71.8% of the total number of enterprises benefiting. 

Thirdly, the patent reserves in the digital economy and medical fields have been further strengthened. Among the 35 technical categories under the WIPO standard, three fields had seen the fastest growth in the effective amount of invention patents in China, namely, the information technology management methods, computer technology and medical technology, which increased by 100.3%, 32.7% and 28.7% respectively. 

Fourthly, foreign enterprises have further enhanced their information on intellectual property protection in China. In 2021, foreign applicants granted 110,000 invention patents in China, a year-on-year increase of 23.0%; 194,000 trademarks were registered, up 5.2% year-on-year. Among them, the US invention patent granting and trademark registration increased by 32.1% and 17.3% respectively.
